Are Chinese Cars Available in Right-Hand Drive? RHD Models and Availability

8/6/2026

Yes — Chinese manufacturers build right-hand drive for export, but availability is model-specific and used RHD stock inside China is limited. Here is the practical picture.

Why used RHD stock is scarce China itself drives on the right, so the domestic used-car pool is almost entirely left-hand drive. RHD units are built for export markets and mostly sold abroad. That means used RHD sourcing usually comes from export-oriented dealer stock or re-export, and lead times are longer.

Brands and models commonly available in RHD BYD builds the Atto 3, Dolphin, Seal and Han in RHD for the UK, Kenya, Tanzania, Thailand, Malaysia, Australia and New Zealand. Changan offers the CS35 Plus, CS75 Plus and Alsvin in RHD for Kenya, Pakistan and Southeast Asia. XPeng produces RHD G6 and G9 for Thailand, Malaysia and Hong Kong. MG, Chery and Haval also have broad RHD line-ups.

Where LHD is fine The Gulf states, Egypt, Algeria, Morocco, Nigeria, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Russia, most of Latin America and continental Europe all use LHD, which gives you far more choice and better pricing.

Markets that require RHD by law Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda, Zambia, Zimbabwe, Botswana, South Africa, Pakistan, Thailand, Malaysia, Indonesia, the UK and Ireland do not permit LHD registration for ordinary imports. Do not ship an LHD car to these markets on the assumption it can be converted; conversions are usually not accepted for registration.

Also check the age limit Several RHD markets cap vehicle age: Kenya allows units up to 8 years old, Tanzania and Uganda apply higher taxes on older units, and Sri Lanka and Bangladesh have their own rules. Combine the age limit with the RHD requirement before shortlisting a car.
