Can I Charge a Chinese EV in My Country? GB/T, CCS2 and Adapters Explained

8/5/2026

Chinese electric cars ship with the GB/T charging standard, not CCS2 or CHAdeMO. This is the single most common question buyers ask, and it is solvable.

AC charging (home and destination charging) The GB/T AC socket is physically different from Type 2, but the underlying protocol is compatible. A GB/T to Type 2 adapter cable, or a portable charger with a local plug, lets you charge from any standard single-phase or three-phase supply. Overnight AC charging is how the large majority of imported EVs are actually charged.

DC fast charging GB/T DC is not natively compatible with CCS2. You need a GB/T to CCS2 adapter, which is widely available and typically costs USD 300–700. Some public networks in Europe restrict adapter use, so check with the operator. In markets with no public DC network at all — much of East and West Africa — AC charging is the practical answer regardless.

Voltage and frequency China runs 220V/50Hz, which matches most of Africa, the Middle East, Europe and Central Asia. In 110V/60Hz markets you will need a suitable charger; AC charge times roughly double.

800V models The XPeng G6 and G9 and several newer BYD models use an 800V architecture. They still fast-charge on 400V infrastructure, just at a slower rate — the car manages the step-down automatically.

Battery health matters more than charging speed A used EV with 82% state of health has lost nearly a fifth of its range. We publish the measured SOH percentage and cycle count for every used EV before you pay a deposit, so you can judge real-world range in your climate.

What we supply Each exported EV can ship with a portable AC charger, a GB/T to Type 2 cable and, on request, a GB/T to CCS2 DC adapter. Tell us your market and we will spec the right kit.
